Caddo Lake has long been recognized as a prime spot for bass fishing, with anglers often reporting an abundance of 8-pound or larger bass being caught with bait such as live shrimp, worms, or jigs.

Crappie, White Bass and Sunfish are popular species found in lakes. While these species can often be caught using topwater lures, they may also be found deeper underwater or near submerged aquatic vegetation.

Channel Catfish are another widely found species in Lake Erie and can be caught using various baits like jigs, crankbaits, and spoons. These fish can often be found throughout its bays and sloughs.

Longnose Gar are prolific inhabitants of Caddo Lake. These fish are nocturnal feeders that prey upon small gamefish; you can catch one using baits like nightcrawlers, crickets or waxworms.

These fish play an essential role in controlling yellow sandshell mussel populations that would otherwise become an invasive species without them. Their voracious predators have the power to consume up to 100 percent of mussel populations while providing delicious eating fish as a bonus!

Sunfish and channel catfish fishing is at its finest during late spring and early summer. Bait options such as nightcrawlers, crickets, grasshoppers and waxworms offer optimal success.

Other fish to catch in lakes include spotted bass, blue catfish and flathead catfish - ideal options for novice and veteran bass fishermen alike! Because these species are easy to catch.
